Rollercoaster Return For Coleman

New, second time around manager John Coleman has said his return to Accrington was a rollercoaster of emotions thanks to the Northampton game.

A five four scoreline thanks to a brace from newbie John O’Sullivan and Rob Atkinson, with fellow new boy Sean Maguire also adding to the scoreline certainly had pulses racing in the game, but Northampton certainly made us work hard for the victory with their own efforts.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the manager explained.

‘I was just thinking, we never do things the easy way and it was like me and Jimmy (Bell) had never been away. It’s a great win but it’s tinged with a bit of disappointment that we conceded four. The lads were terrific though. We went in with a game plan and to play a certain style of football under me. I wanted the players to go out and express themselves and enjoy it – and I think they did.’

Coleman goes on to say that although it must have been a great game for the neutral with how it ebbed and flowed, he doesn’t want us to need to go out and score five goals every week so clearly we have some defensive work to do on that score but in some ways with the attacking intent on show we probably got a little gung ho and carried away with things when a bit more discipline would’ve been useful.

With that said, Northampton’s final three came ten odd minutes from time and they were always going to try and pummel us at that stage.

‘It’s three points and we were superb. I said to Jimmy last night wouldn’t it be great if we won with John and Sean scoring but never in my wildest dreams did I think it would happen.’
